National Mean Girls Day

This past April marked the 10th anniversary of the theatrical release of the now-cult classic film Mean Girls. While it may not be in the same midnight-showing cult league as The Rocky Horror Picture Show, or even Night of the Living Dead, the 2004 Lindsay Lohan star vehicle (which actually had an ensemble cast and was a big boost to more than just Miss Lohan's career) does have its avid fans, and those fans know the significance of today's date.

For the uninitiated; Lohan's character Cady Heron, during one of her several voiceovers in the film, marks the day her crush turns to her in Ms. Norbury's (winning portrayed by Tina Fey) calculus class to ask her what day it is, to which she joyfully replies, "It's October 3rd." Since it's a significant and specific date mentioned in the film, and the film has now achieved cult status, it stood to reason that this day would be officially recognized by fans.

Above is the notable scene where Cady meets the "Plastics," Karen Smith (Amanda Seyfried), Gretchen Wieners (Lacey Chabert), and queen bee Regina George (played to the T by Rachel McAdams), for the first time. After being quickly sized up and judged to be a good fit by the trio, Cady's immediately recruited to join their clique. Produced by Saturday Night Live head honcho Lorne Michaels and written by Tina Fey, a good part of the films' winning formula is due to it being chock full of some of SNL's finest alumni, who fill roles as parents and teachers. Besides DVD, and Blu Ray, this one's even available on VHS, since it was released just before the total demise of that format and stores stopped carrying home video releases on VHS. (It's especially cool to own this one on VHS.) If you're a connoisseur of cult films, Mean Girls is a must.
